A HYDROGEN Powered Car: The Concept.

Every car manufacturer seeks a refined way of making their cars efficient and conservative in the way the automobiles use fuel and convert it to energy.

Electric Cars have the Traction battery pack which store power that is used to power the Electric Traction Motor. In comparison, Hydrogen Powered Vehicles (FCEVs) produce electricity from fuel cells powered by hydrogen.

1. Fueling Up:

  • Hydrogen is pumped into the car’s high-pressure tanks, similar to filling a gasoline car.

2. Inside the Fuel Cell:

  • The hydrogen enters the fuel cell stack, where it encounters a membrane electrolyte.
  • On one side of the membrane is the hydrogen, and on the other side is oxygen drawn in from the air.
  • A catalyst in the membrane helps the hydrogen and oxygen to react, creating electricity and water vapor as the only byproducts.

Imagine you have a bowl of lemonade, but the lemons won’t come out! Electrolysis is like a magic trick that uses electricity to “unsqueeze” the lemonade and get the lemons back.

Here’s how it works:

  1. The lemonade bowl: That’s the special water we use, called an electrolyte. Think of it like bubbly lemonade mixed with tiny salt grains.
  2. The metal spoons: These are the electrodes, like two metal friends helping in the trick. One is called the “minus” friend, and the other is the “plus” friend.
  3. The magic wand: That’s the battery, making electricity like a zap of happiness.

When we zap the lemonade with the battery, the tiny salt grains start moving like dancing bubbles. The “minus” friend attracts the lemon bits (called ions), and the “plus” friend attracts the salty bits.
